I can't get it to update beyond 13.0—I can download the update and when I click "Apply Update," Firefox quits and reopens, but it's still at 13.0 and gives me the error that it failed to apply the patch.

I'm on OS X 10.6.8.

So Firefox will still remain fully portable even if I update it?

Yes, it will. Just exit and relaunch it (as Portable) at the end of the update.

The easy way is duplicate/copy Portable Firefox on your Hard Disk (or your portable device) as many time as you need for your multiple accounts.

Or you can use terminal and on each/multiple shell window do:

/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -profile /your/profile/folder/path

To get folder path just drag it on terminal window.
You can then save these scripts as executable and open them each time you need.
In case your Firefox.app and profile folders are on a portable device, modify path accordingly.
Otherwise you'd need a full license of Fluid.app.

In the PC version of portable Firefox it is easy (through editing an ini file) to allow the application to be opened multiple times and that meant that several google email accounts etc could be logged into at any time.

I cannot find a way of replicating this valuable feature in this otherwise perfect solution to our need - has anyone achieved this already and willing to share how please?

I have noticed that the most recent version of FireFox portable is 4.0.xomething and the current version is 9.0.1. Is there any work still being done on making these apps portable for Mac and especialy Lion?

LibreOffice doesn't even work at all. It simply syas 'libre office opened sucessfuly' followed by 'libreoffice quit successfuly'. It seems like even with the Lion patch most of the apps are so outdated they either dont work well or run a a crawling pace in Lion.
