Portable Mail won't work

Posted by Robert Hughes at September 12. 2007
After a couple weeks of happy Portable Mail, it quit working this AM. At work it said my mailboxes were locked--Mail was not running at home--and then it wouldn't respond at all. I won't work at home either. Do I just trash the portable mail prefs and start over?

Thanks

All preferences of Portable Mail are inside application bundle (Portable Mail.app).

These include application preferences and all your mails database. Probably these files get corrupted.

(If you trash preferences inside Portable Mail you will get an empty mail box.)

Make a backup copy of your Portable Mail.app and then run SyncPAppx on your most update computer.

Select "Copy" button and then open your Portable Mail; you will be asked again to copy your local Mail preferences to portable one.

More info on How to install SyncPAppx page.

Thanks. I had synced it before it became corrupt and then it didn't work, so my local preferences were the most recent. I just trashed the Portable Mail and put in a new copy, then synced. Everything seems ok now.

Many thanks for your response and expertise.

I spoke too soon. I have synced several times and it has not worked in a week. Suggestions?

Do you get the same "Mailbox locked" error?

Do you use, on both computer, the same username?

Try with a "repair permissions" (Applications/Utility/Disk Utility.app -> Verifiy&Repair Disk permissions) on your external drive.
