Pretty much what the title says... I use a Mac but school as PCs. I'd prefer to use my iPod with portable apps but would that work? Or Portable Apps for Mac only work on Macs...

No you can't run Portable Apps on win machine as win don't run OS X apps. You can run all portable applications from http://portableapps.com/ or use Cross Platform Firefox and Cross Platform Thunderbird.
