Problems with Portable Thuderbird + Intel Macbook

Posted by Colin Gibson at April 24. 2008
Hi,

I am trying to use portable Thunderbird 2.0.0.0r3.1 on an Macbook now running OSX 10.4.11 via a USB drive (2GB).

It just will not open. Double click and it shows up in the activity monitor using 0% of CPU time. If I copy the folder to the hard drive and open I get the Thunderbird has open with success but it doesn't open. That is doesn't show up in activity monitor. Then if you open PT again I get the message that Thunderbird has quit with success!

Even more confusing is that it works on the USB drive on a G4 Mac running 10.4.11 and a Mac mini running Leopard!

Help!

Many thanks,
Teri

Do you have any message from Console that could help about what is happening?

Cheers Gant for the reply.

Here is the console ouput:
2008-04-25 17:19:55.963 Portable Thunderbird[1355] CFLog (0):
CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): plist parse failed; the data is not proper UTF-8. The file name for this data could be:
/Volumes/STORE'N'GO/Portable Thunderbird_2.0.0.0_r3.1/Portable Thunderbird.app/Contents/Resources/AppSettings.plist
The parser will retry as in 10.2, but the problem should be corrected in the plist.
2008-04-25 17:19:55.965 Portable Thunderbird[1355] Exception raised during posting of notification. Ignored. exception: *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value

As a complete novice to the delights of Unix and console, this means nothing to me!

Thanks again,
Colin

I just understand this: file AppSetting.plis is not proper UTF-8. Don't know how to fix it. This happen also with a new/first Portable Thunderbird launch?

Cheers Gand for the continued iterest in this problem.

Reloaded a new copy of Portable Thunderbird onto my USB mini drive and got the following error message in Console on trying to open the application:
2008-04-25 17:19:55.965 Portable Thunderbird[1355] Exception raised during posting of notification. Ignored. exception: *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value

Any help would be super.

Colin
