Max (Macintosh Audio for OS X) is a Mac OS X application for generating high-quality audio files from compact discs.

Max has the following features:
  • Error-correcting audio extraction process using cdparanoia
  • Ability to generate MP3, FLAC, and Ogg Vorbis output
  • Integrated with FreeDB to automatically acquire disc information
  • using libcddb
  • Output tagged with album, artist, and track information using TagLib
  • Growl support for notification of ripping and encoding status
  • Automatic encoding of new discs
  • Multithreaded encoding, with user-configurable number of threads
  • User-configurable output file naming

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed multithreaded issue in ripper log that could cause ripping to hang

Known issues:

  • iTunes still displays numbers instead of strings for genres (due to mishandling of ID3v2.4 tags)
  • Not all output formats are tagged with metadata
